Geothermal Well Integrity Review

SPD has recently completed a comprehensive review of the Well Integrity Management System for a Geothermal Operator in the Philippines.  The objective of this review was to provide assurance that their system is fit for purpose and effectively managing risks associated with well operations.

The review was carried out by a team of experts from SPD, bringing together specialized knowledge in well integrity, geothermal well design, drilling operations, and risk management.

The review assessed the application of technical, operational, and organizational controls designed to reduce the risk of uncontrolled release of formation fluids. The assessment covered multiple critical areas including:

  • Qualitative and independent assessment of the Wells Integrity Management System
  • Clearly assigned responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Management of knowledge
  • Incident reporting and audit of well integrity incidents
  • Governance of well registers, incident logs, monitoring plans and operating limits
  • Monitoring of operating conditions and robust data collection
  • Wellhead maintenance and inspection programmes
  • Casing condition monitoring

A risk matrix was developed specifically to help assess and mitigate these risks.

The study established well barrier elements for the full well cycle and developed performance standards.

The Well Integrity Asset Management System review demonstrated effective controls and management processes are in place to ensure the safety of workers, protection of the environment, and reliability of operations.
