Project Overview

An international operator with a mature field of more than 50 wells — acquired just 18 months prior — engaged SPD to assess the technical and economic feasibility of Coiled Tubing Drilling (CTD) as a through-tubing sidetracking option. With operations ceased in approximately half the well stock and an intervention campaign revealing daily surprises in well condition, the study needed to deliver a credible feasibility verdict despite substantial data uncertainty.

SPD’s Approach

SPD’s response to data scarcity was to draw on in-house expertise and correlated local experience to establish defensible assumptions. Rather than waiting for complete information, SPD developed a risk identification and accrual framework that allowed well planning and hydraulic modelling to proceed with confidence. A sensitivity-driven cost model was built covering both CTD and conventional drilling options — a tool the client could continue using after study completion.

Results & Value Delivered

✔ Credible Feasibility Verdict — Robust assessment delivered despite incomplete well records, immature targets and limited offset data.

✔ Risk Explicitly Quantified — Structured risk accrual framework gave a transparent view of uncertainties and potential impact.

✔ Living Cost Model — Sensitivity-driven model allowed ongoing evaluation of CTD vs conventional economics as market conditions changed.
