The System That Runs When You’re Not Looking

A management system that exists as a PDF in a shared drive is not a management system. It is a liability document that demonstrates the organisation knew the right process and chose not to follow it.

Effective Well Integrity and Drilling Management Systems are documents that engineers actually use — because they are written in clear, unambiguous language, they reflect how the organisation actually works, and they contain answers to the questions the engineer is likely to have in the field at two in the morning.

Superior Performance Design writes management systems that people use. We have built Drilling Management Systems from scratch for operators preparing to mobilise their first campaign, Well Standards suites covering every technical discipline from casing design to P&A, and Well Integrity Management Systems for geothermal operators managing 57-well portfolios with no centralised data visibility.

What We Deliver

  • Full Drilling Management System (DMS): policy, standards and operational procedures — three-tier hierarchy, internally consistent and cross-referenced throughout
  • Well Standards and Guidelines suites: up to 12 standards covering design through abandonment, correctly aligned to API, ISO and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Well Integrity Management Systems: centralised tracking, barrier status reporting, alert-driven remedial workflows, predictive risk functionality
  • Regulatory compliance matrices: every applicable requirement mapped to the specific document and clause that addresses it
  • Deviation and approval procedures: formal process for documenting, approving and recording departures from standard requirements
  • Implementation support and staff training: embedding competence in your team, not dependency on ours

The SPD Approach to Management Systems

We do not adapt a template. We start with a structured discovery phase — workshops and interviews with the people who will actually use the system — to understand how the organisation works, what decisions it makes, and what the regulatory framework requires. The output is a system the organisation owns, not one imposed on it from outside.

Our language convention follows ISO drafting standards: ‘shall’ for obligations, ‘should’ for recommended practice, ‘may’ for permissible alternatives. No ambiguity. No room for interpretation that depends on who is reading it.

Regulatory Record

Every management system and standards suite SPD has produced has been accepted by the relevant regulatory authority — in multiple jurisdictions — without material requirement for redesign. Our clients describe their SPD-authored systems as “genuinely used on our wells — not because they’re mandatory, but because they’re actually useful.”
