Gas Storage Well Conversion — Feasibility to FEED

Onshore depleted reservoir · 14 wells · 500 MMscf capacity · 25-year operational life

Project Overview

An operator with a depleted onshore dry gas field sought to repurpose the asset as an underground gas storage facility. The project required conversion of existing wells and design of new injector/withdrawal wells to achieve a working gas capacity of approximately 500 MMscf. The conversion programme was technically complex: existing well infrastructure had been designed for production, not for the cyclic, high-rate injection and withdrawal demands of storage operations.

SPD’s Approach

SPD delivered phased engineering services from initial data review through to a full well integrity management plan. Phase 1: full review of original well records, cement bond logs and barrier gap analysis. Phase 2: re-completion design for four injector/producers including 13Cr tubing, DHSV upgrades and re-perforation. Phase 3: quantitative risk assessment for cyclic loading, corrosion modelling and a 25-year Well Integrity Management Plan.

Results & Value Delivered
