Tigless Well P&A — Offshore Platform
Permanent abandonment of complex platform wells · Rigless feasibility proven
Project Overview
An operator required permanent abandonment of complex offshore platform wells. The study addressed whether these wells could be abandoned rigless — leaving tubing in-situ, using through-tubing wireline and pumping techniques, or with the assistance of coiled tubing — and if so, at what cost saving relative to conventional rig-based P&A.
SPD’s Approach
SPD reviewed all available well data including completion diagrams, engineering drilling reports and formation evaluation data. Individual abandonment designs were developed per well. A sensitivity-driven cost model was built covering both rigless and rig-based options, providing the client with a tool they could continue using as market conditions evolved.
Results & Value Delivered
✔ Rigless Feasibility Proven — Detailed cost sensitivity modelling confirmed rigless approach viable with appropriate contingency planning.
✔ OEUK Compliant Designs — All abandonment designs developed in full compliance with OEUK well abandonment guidelines.
