Offshore P&A — Platform: 9-Well Decommissioning
Fixed steel jacket · 120m water depth · 18 rig days saved · 12% under AFE
Project Overview
An operator required permanent abandonment of nine wells on a fixed steel jacket platform in 120 metres water depth — comprising five producers, two water injectors and two exploration wells. All were drilled between 1991 and 2004 and temporarily abandoned following cessation of production in 2019. The scope demanded full compliance with OEUK Well Decommissioning Guidelines, barrier verification across wells with unverified primary barriers, and resolution of sustained annular pressure on two wells.
SPD’s Approach
SPD delivered end-to-end services: from initial barrier assessment and P&A design through rig selection, tendering support and on-site execution supervision. Barrier Assessment — well-by-well barrier diagrams, full OEUK compliance review, plug placement design and casing section milling for all nine wells. Three wells required cement remediation prior to P&A execution. PWC technique was applied on four wells, saving an estimated 18 rig days.
Results & Value Delivered
✔ All 9 Wells Permanently Abandoned — Full OEUK compliance achieved across every well in a single rig campaign.
✔ 18 Rig Days Saved — PWC technique applied on 4 wells, delivering significant cost savings.
✔ 12% Under AFE — Cost savings driven by technology selection and efficient execution planning.
✔ Annular Pressure Resolved — Diagnostic programme executed safely with no well control incidents.
