Geothermal Well Engineering — Production & Reinjection Programme
Field expansion programme · High-temperature geothermal service · Zero HSE incidents
Project Overview
A geothermal energy developer preparing to expand an active field engaged SPD for well engineering services for a programme of new production and reinjection wells. The developer had extensive geothermal production experience but lacked dedicated well engineering capability. The programme included directional production wells targeting deeper reservoir horizons at higher temperatures than previously drilled, alongside reinjection wells.
SPD’s Approach
SPD’s well design drew on geothermal-specific engineering principles and the field’s offset well performance, with all design inputs conservatively adjusted for higher temperatures. Material selection — casing grades, connections, cement and wellhead — was evaluated specifically for high-temperature geothermal service. Lost circulation management used managed mud weight, real-time loss monitoring and a pre-prepared LCM programme. SPD engineers were present on site for all critical operations.
Results & Value Delivered
✔ All Wells Drilled to Target — Full programme of production and reinjection wells completed without loss of wellbore integrity.
✔ Zero HSE Incidents — Programme completed without lost time injuries or environmental incidents.
✔ Lost Circulation Managed — Pre-prepared LCM programme and managed mud weight contained losses within acceptable limits on all wells.
✔ On-Site Continuity — Continuous engineering presence ensured real-time technical decision-making throughout the programme.
