When something goes wrong on a well, the engineer who designed it, the operator who approved it, and the regulator who permitted it all face the same question: who gave the technical advice? If that advice came from a firm that also sells drilling tools, cementing services or rig time, you already know the answer. Their recommendation was never fully yours.

Superior Performance Design is different. We sell nothing but engineering judgement. No equipment. No service lines. No preferred suppliers. When we tell you a design is safe, a cost estimate is realistic, or a contractor is underperforming, you can trust that conclusion — because we have no financial reason to tell you anything else.

Why Independence Matters More Than You Think

The conflict you don’t notice until it’s too late. Large oilfield services companies bundle well engineering with tool rentals, cementing crews and directional drilling. Their engineers are technically skilled — but they work within a commercial framework that rewards upselling. An independent engineer has a simpler brief: give the client the right answer.

The regulator sees it too. In jurisdictions where a Well Examiner or independent verifier is required, the regulator’s expectation is genuine independence. A verification report from an engineer employed by your drilling contractor is not the same as one from a firm with no interest in the outcome. SPD’s independence is what gives our certificates their credibility.
